  2. Who needs to sign the NCL Parental Consent form?

The form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian of the child. This ensures that the adult responsible for the child's welfare has given permission for the child's participation. In cases where the child is under the age of 18, consent from a parent or guardian is mandatory.

Misconceptions

Understanding the NCL Parental Consent form is essential for parents and guardians. However, there are several misconceptions that can lead to confusion. Here are seven common misconceptions explained.

  1. It is only for special education students.

The NCL Parental Consent form is not limited to special education. It applies to all students when specific actions or services are required.

  2. Signing the form means giving up all rights.

Signing does not mean parents lose their rights. They retain the ability to make decisions about their child's education and can revoke consent at any time.

  3. Consent is permanent once given.

Consent can be withdrawn. Parents can change their minds and revoke consent whenever they feel it is necessary.

  4. The form is only needed for testing.

While testing is one reason for the form, it may also be required for other services and interventions that benefit the student.

  5. All schools use the same consent form.

Different schools or districts may have variations in their forms. It’s important to check the specific requirements of the school your child attends.

  6. Parents will be notified every time consent is needed.

While schools aim to keep parents informed, there may be instances where consent is implied or not explicitly requested for every action.

  7. Completing the form guarantees services.

Filling out the form does not guarantee services will be provided. Eligibility and availability can affect whether services are granted.

Being aware of these misconceptions can help parents navigate the process with confidence. Always feel free to ask questions or seek clarification from school officials if needed.
